la jetee
even though the frames were are still shots, some of them seemed less static than others. there was a movement to some of them, maybe a slight vibration. any noise and music increased this feeling of movement. also, for the most part, the still shots did not seem stagnant or unchanging, there was a feeling of movement and time captured within many of the shots, especially those with humans.
the fading of images into each other gave me a feeling of passing of time and changing locations or situations.
since the movie was in black and white, the use of the darkness and light was very important to balance the shots and create strong, interesting compositions.
there was some repetitive images, either playing directly after each other or showing up on several occasions throughout the film. i think that since the movie is all still frames, this is necessary and important for us to get a sense of what is going on, a sense of the characters, and an idea what everything means- why it is showing up when it does.
2. the camera needs time to focus and adjust when you zoom in and out.
3. you need a lot of space to get good shots.
4. it is more difficult than i thought to capture something the same way you experience it in real time and space than how it is played back to you.
5. a lot of things seemed more interesting and dynamic after i had been taping for a while and finding interesting ways to capture shots.
6. even sitting still and recording with your arm leaning against a surface for steadiness isn’t steady. buy a tripod or set the camera down in a safe place to record still shots.
7. cropping shots in awkward ways makes for awkward footage that doesn’t make sense.
8. movement can be displayed through sense of time and through noise, not just by seeing something or someone move.
9. music or noise can completely change the way you “see” something.
10. utilize what you can to make your footage as interesting as possible. creative shots and trying to see things differently for yourself makes it more interesting for you and for others. it makes your work more enjoyable to do and for people to look at.
